Day 13 - Project 365
"Team Work"
Today started like every other day... "what shall today's theme be?" Not a moment after this was said at the dinner table did this shot come in mind. I wanted to show team work but in a unconventional way. My good friend Erika lent me her kids for an hour to get this shot. Aidan (the bottom one) and his brother Gavin were excited to help and were ready to go the second I got there. Aidan was so ready that he had already put gel in his hair and was dressed. Gavin was a little slower as he took over 10 minutes to put his t-shirt on. He just could't seem to get his arms in the sleeves right. I had asked him if he had a problem and would like help but he declined. We headed out the door and gavin asked if he could help carry anything. I gave him the power cord to my light as it was the only thing he really couldn't break. He insisted on holding my camera, but I just couldn't give it up. We made our way to the dumpsters and upon entering the dumpster enclosure, Aidan made the obvious comment that it smelled bad - he was right! I set up the shot and snapped a few test pictures and when happy with the light I picked Gavin up and put him on his brothers shoulders. Now when I asked Aidan if he could handle the weight of his younger brother he, like any self respecting little man said "of course". He may have been overstating that as he looked to be struggling just a bit. He struggled to steady his brother while I handed the trash bag up to the wobbling Gavin. I quickly backed up and started snapping shot after shot. I gave Aidan a break after 30 seconds and removed the weight from his shoulders. I lowered the light a bit and re-stacked the kids. After about another 30 seconds I was confident I got the shot and gave Aidan relief. We made our way back to the house where Aidan thinking he was slick, asked me to play Call of Duty World at War. Figuring I was a adult that didn't know how to play the game, he would beat me easily. I gave him a break for the first game letting him shoot me and get his ego up. Then promptly crushed him the second to show him he misjudged his opponent. Some people would say thats mean, I say its life. Learning to lose is an important componant of growing up.
