Day 19 - Project 365

"Multitasking"

Day 19 was straight out of my own playbook. Multitasking isn't one of my strong suits but I have managed to perfect the Lavatorial-Office as ] so beautifully illustrates. When I thought of this idea I originally was just going to plop my ass on the seat and snap the shot. However, better judgment set in and I decided that the last shot of me and a toilet was pretty disturbing and I didn't have my pants down. I had to call in a professional! Lia's smooth legs and tan skin just made the shot humorous yet appealing. Its like having the choice between seeing Jack Black Naked or Cameron Diaz! I had texted Lia this concept and immediately she had ideas. She finished up at Walmart, ran home and gathered clothes, props and an orange. I feel bad when I call on Lia and she has not eaten yet. She shows up with super short black shorts and two tank tops. I've seen this over the past few years gain popularity. The art of layering tank tops. My X used to do it so much that she had about 50 tank tops in different colors. It was a chore for her to find the right ones as she would flip through a few dozen combinations before finding the right one. Black with canary yellow or school bus yellow? it's yellow damn it! Anyways, I've been told that I digress alot when writing and with no one sitting behind me, reeling me back in every once in a while I feel as if I drift further and further. If you all haven't noticed, the blogs are getting longer and longer. I apologize if this is causing eye strain but I suppose its better then reading some boring strictly technical Photo blog. I like to laugh and think most other people do also.

As Lia fiddles with the hair rollers, rollers in which she has never used!, I set up the two lights and take advantage of Shawn being in the bathroom and tell him to pop a squat on the throne and look pretty. Lighting wasn't difficult as I knew I would knock most of the background out in Photoshop. I simply boomed the beauty dish directly over Lia's head and raised it 2 feet above her head. I then placed a AB800 with a Medium Soft box in the bathtub and aimed it at the laptop. I wanted to make sure you could see the wood grain cover I have. I LOVE it as it gives my computer a more "my mac is better than yours" look. We snap about 2 dozen shots before I realize she still has her flip flops on and I was forgetting the panties. I grabbed the pink panties, removed her sandals and slipped them over her feet. The look was now complete! I snapped a few more and knew I had the shot. At the last minute I decided to switch to the wide angle Tokina and shoot at 11mm. This just gave it a slightly more comical effect. The very last shot I asked her to look at her phone and yell at it. She in return looked at her phone as if the call had failed (not a far stretch for AT&T). This proved to be winning shot. We reviewed the shots and confirmed that the final shot was the winner. We then ran back into the bathroom and snapped a few of me with the rollers in my hair. I just needed some more behind the scenes shots as today's shoot was just Lia and Myself.

Lighting: The white bathroom really acts as one large soft box so I had to be careful with light placement.
