Day 14 - Project 365

"Down on the Farm"

Today started out with a headache and a desperate need for water. I had stayed at my friend Erika's house after we ate and drank there after the movie. I didn't get to sleep til around 5am. I didn't start thinking of an idea till around 5pm. I thought industrial and a pretty woman might work well as a contrasting element. I thought about who would be up for a last minute idea and not mind getting there feet dirty. Brittnee was the first person to come to mind. Within minutes of my text she was in. I had forgot to charge my vagabond II portable battery pack so I had to quickly improvise a way to get power. I remembered when I got the Vagabond that it came with alligator clamps to hook it to a Car battery. I quickly took apart the unit (first time ever) and hooked the alligator clamps up to it and set out to Brittnee's. I arrived at Brittnee's and made my way to here room. My friend Sophie was sitting on the bed and Brittnee was in the bathroom putting makeup on. I was offered a beer which I promptly excepted and chatted with Sophie for a bit. Sophie quickly mentioned and commented on my ridicules beard I'm growing. Most people seem to like it. Brittnee yelled from the bathroom to go in her closet and pick something for her to wear. Her closet is about 10 feet deep and she has the whole left side filled top to bottom. I picked out a bright printed dress that would be sure to show up against the dark background. She grabbed a few beers and we headed out. I drove out to the industrial part of town and quickly found the old cement factory that I had once did an early morning car shoot at. The area around the cement mills was covered in the finest powdered concrete. It would be great if the beach sand was this soft. I set up the boom with the beauty dish and a medium soft box. Brittnee was in the car with the heat blasting. I only knew this because when I stuck my head in to get a power strip my eyes nearly instantly started to dry out as it was quickly becoming a dry sauna inside. Mind you that it was around 63 degrees out, which is no where near cold enough to warrant such heat. But, she was cold so who was I to say anything. I motioned for her to get out and we started snapping some test shots. I've gotten pretty good at positioning the lights and setting the power level from just looking at a scene. Testing was short and I had her put the dress on and jump in the shot. Working with Brittnee is easy as she is accustomed to my shooting style and the shoot flows very smooth. We mess around a bit, change positions and lighting a few times and finally call it a wrap. All in all the shoot was short, fun and as always, interesting.
